Dear Families,
New Families
We are delighted welcome two new families into the school………Please remember that phone numbers are only for the personal use of the families for school related business. We are also delighted to say that fall enrollment is going well and ironically, most of the new children are boys. We should be about balanced next year.
New Teachers
This April will see several changes. Over the Spring break, we were fortunate enough to find two excellent teachers for the school. One will be a permanent addition to the school and one will become a permanent sub( the way Rebekah used to be). Allison, our permanent sub, will be joining us in the mornings beginning next Tuesday. She will be teaching Tuesday through Friday morning for the remaining weeks of April. Melissa will begin the change in her schedule late next week and will be teaching in the afternoons starting the weeks of April 20th and 27th. She will then be going on her maternity leave. We will miss her greatly, thank her for her many contributions to the school and the children, and wish her, Todd, and their baby boy well. We will have a goodbye/happy baby party at school for her but are working on the date.
I am in final negotiations with the teacher who will replace Melissa in May as well as a teacher for the Kindergarten. I will advise as soon as the discussions are compete. We are fortunate that so many excellent teachers have applied.
Outside Changes
Some other changes are more functional but, as teachers, we are happy to have them. We have added an outside door to the bathroom so that the children can enter without coming inside. The gate has been moved forward to create more space for the trikes, scooters, bouncing balls, etc. And we have a hose bib near the garden, water table, and big sandbox. Our garden is evolving from a winter one to the planting of spring and summer plants. We are grateful to a school family for the gift of a dwarf apricot tree. We are replanting radishes and are planting carrots. Tomatoes will go in next week. The mystery plants are growing very tall and now we think they are sunflowers that started from seeds that fell out of the bird feeders.
Food from Different Cultures
We would like to prepare some snacks that represent foods from the wonderfully diverse cultures represented by our children’s backgrounds. Please share either a recipe or, better still, come make a dish with us that comes from your family’s heritage. Beyond preparing cold dishes, we are able to microwave food and to freeze dishes. We also have a crock pot and a blender. We look forward to sharing many delicious treats. Please bring the recipe in a form that we can add it to a school cookbook that we are beginning. We do have a no nut policy and one child is allergic to fresh strawberries. Thanks!
Upcoming Family Event
We will be celebrating the fun of Cinco de Mayo on Wednesday, May 5th at 11:15 (children who don’t normally come on Wednesday are welcome for the morning). Note the time is not in the beginning of the morning as we sometimes do. We like to vary the times so that we can accommodate parent’s varying schedules. We will have food and activities to celebrate together.
Keep checking our web site for updates; we try and post things a couple times a week. www.kidslovepreschool.com.
Happy Spring and thank you for the opportunity to be with your children.
