It’s our Ollie cat that died. I called Deborah mid-day for help and was really touched by her advice. We read the books to our daughter and performed a burial, with a song and the ten good things about Ollie. Our daughter at first talked about the death, but did not “emote” about it. It seemed odd, but Deborah explained that children will go through stages of mourning and might not be able to integrate everything about it at once. Although she did not cry aloud in the day time, our daughter’s sleeping was filled with some moans and sadness, just a few days. She still talks about Ollie, expecting to see him and how much we miss him. Thank you Deborah for guiding us through this.

Thanks for the great recommendations, Deborah! We’ve already checked out two Llama, Llama books from the library, and Felix has really been enjoying them.

It was so nice to connect with some of the other parents during our first parent coffee. I’m looking forward to more to come.

PS Abebooks.com is a great resource for used children’s books. It is a website of thousands of used book stores around the country. You can find any title for nothing but a buck and shipping. Condition is listed, but frankly, I’ve never had any problems with condition. And sellers are prompt with shipping.

I finally gave myself time to sit and really read this thoroughly. Hopefully I’ll get better at telling my children what I want them to do rather than what I DON’T want them to do-and why. Practice, practice, practice.
